Hi,

Wow!  Can you believe that the holiday season is just around the
corner?  Where has the year gone?  (Yes, I realize that it’s
ONLY November, but this is my last newsletter for 2006…).  I
hope that it’s been a wonderful year for you and that you are
closer to where you really want to be!

As many of you know, this has been a year of transition for me.
And, I must say that I feel that I am really heading down the
path that I was always meant to take.  It’s really so exciting!
I have learned so much this year…about myself, about my clients,
about people and about creating a business.  I have so much to
be grateful for and so many reasons to celebrate, which is the
topic of today’s newsletter!

I hope that you have a
Better Than Ever Holiday season!  I look
forward to connecting with you in 2007 (boy, that feels weird)
and I hope that you find many, many reasons to celebrate in the
coming months!

All my best,
Helen

Feature Article: How Do You Celebrate?

*****************************************************
With the holiday season approaching, you may be starting to think
about how you will celebrate the upcoming holidays.  Does that
mean getting together with friends and/or family for
Thanksgiving?  Or, maybe that means attending the lavish office
party?  Does it mean exchanging gifts for Christmas or Hanukkah?
Or maybe you’re planning to have a house full of people for a
New Year’s Eve party?  There are so many different ways that
people celebrate during the holidays…

How do you celebrate during the rest of the year?  I’m not
talking about formal special occasions like birthdays, weddings
or anniversaries.  I’m talking about how you celebrate other
things that are important to you.  This is something that I ask
my clients regularly as they accomplish a goal.  And, it’s
funny, I often get the response, ‘Gee, I haven’t thought about
that’.  Just to let you know, I, too, have been guilty of that
same response!

In our fast-paced world, we’re always trying to do more, in a
shorter timeframe.  Taking the time to celebrate a milestone,
such as completing a report, cleaning out a closet or paying off
a student loan can seem like a luxury that you really don’t have
time to do.  Why not?  I think that some people feel that a
celebration has to be BIG to be worthwhile.  That may be true in
some instances, but I think that there are different ways to
celebrate that don’t have to be expensive, time consuming or
big!  The ‘formula’ is actually quite simple:

1 - Make a list a few things that you’d LOVE to do, but just
never get around to doing.  These can be very simple things like
taking an hour to sit down with a cup of tea and reading your
favorite magazines.  Or, plan an ice cream party with your
children, significant other and/or best friend.  Or, take the
time to go to a new Yoga class that your friends have been
raving about.  Don’t make your list too long and only include
things that make you smile as you write them on your list!

2 - After you’ve accomplished something, pick one of the items
and put it on your calendar.  This can be the hard part…just
finding time.  Once you’ve selected the time, ‘guard’ this
celebration time as much as you can…just like you would any
other formal celebration or important commitment.

3 - Enjoy your celebration!  Have fun!

It’s easy to beat yourself up for not getting EVERYTHING done
(although, most of us have never ending to-do lists, that just
keep growing and growing…).  Why not honor yourself for the
things that you do accomplish?  When you do this, you may find
you feel:
invigorated
happier and
more motivated to work on completing other things on your to-
do list!

I hope you will start giving yourself much-deserved pats on the
back more often!  Have fun celebrating!

What’s Next for You?

*****************************************************
This month I would like you to say ‘thank you’ to yourself by
selecting something you accomplished last month to celebrate.
Here are a few ideas of things that you may want to
celebrate…you made a really cool Halloween costume for your son,
or you kept a promise to yourself to get up early every work day
to exercise, or you were ‘calm, cool and collected’ during a
meeting with a very challenging client.

How will you celebrate your success?  Remember, it doesn’t have
to be expensive or take a lot of time.  If you have trouble
coming up with a way to celebrate, just think of some of the
things you LOVE to do, but never seem to have time to do them…

Once you have decided HOW to celebrate, it’s time to figure out
WHEN you’ll celebrate.  Get it on your calendar!  Then make sure
the people in your life (e.g., family members, co-workers,
manager) know that this time is BOOKED and it’s important that
you are able to take this time to celebrate.  Don’t forget to
make any necessary arrangements, like getting a babysitter, so
that when that celebration time comes – you have a wonderful
stress-free celebration, which is exactly what you deserve!

What’s Your Favorite Way to Celebrate?

*****************************************************
I love to celebrate an accomplishment by going to one of the local
restaurants and picking up a quart of piping hot New England
Clam Chowder.  Then, my husband and I take it to one of the Cape
Cod Bay Beaches and eat the chowder while we watch the sunset.
Ideally, it’s warm enough outside to setup chairs on the
beach…but if it’s not, sitting inside a toasty warm car works
just fine, too!

What’s your favorite way to celebrate?  It would be such fun to
include a list of the different ways people celebrate in a
future issue of
What Could Be Better?…please send me an e-mail
(
mailto:Helen@BetterThanEverCoaching.com) with a brief
description of your favorite way to celebrate.  I can include
your name or you can remain anonymous…please let me know your
preference.
