Ready for Some FUN?

Hi,

FINALLY, here on the East Coast we have had some nice warm sunny
days after a string of dark damp dreary weather!  Boy, these beautiful
days really give you spring fever, don’t they?  What do you think of when
someone says spring fever?  I think of being outside and soaking up
the sunshine!  I also think of cleaning out things, you know, spring-
cleaning!  But I think the most powerful thing for me is all of the
possibilities that seem to start to appear…kind of like all of the bulbs
that you forgot you planted last fall and now the gorgeous flowers are
popping up all over the place!  Sometimes, all of the possibilities can
start to feel overwhelming…so much so that you just shutdown and
don’t bother with any of the options that you have available.  Does that
ever happen to you?  I know it does to me…  Hopefully, this month’s
newsletter will help you move forward and allow you to have some
FUN
in the process!

Have a
Better Than Ever month!

All my best,
Helen

Feature Article: Ready for Some FUN?

*************************************************************
With spring arriving, I always think of new beginnings.  It
feels like there are so many possibilities.  Don’t get me
wrong, there are always LOTS of possibilities, it just feels
like
spring awakens ALL of those possibilities at once!  Is
there something that you’ve always wanted to do?  Or do you
feel like you’re in a rut and want to try something new?  Why
not try the
FUN process to get going?

What’s the
FUN process? Glad you asked!

-- F is for ‘Forget about all the reasons not to do it’
What is the ONE thing that you keep promising yourself that
you’ll do?  Maybe it’s learning to play golf, or going to
Greece, or researching your family tree, or changing careers.
I realize that most of us have lots and lots of things that
we keep telling ourselves that someday we’ll do…  And for
others of us, there may be things that we’ve said that we’ve
ALWAYS wanted to do, but we’ve been talked out of it by someone
else, or we’ve come up with great excuses…like, ‘I won’t be
any good at it…’, or ‘I’m too old…’, or ‘I don’t have time…’.

Take a minute to think about ONE thing that you really want to
do.  Forget about all the reasons you’ve given yourself in the
past to put off doing it.  What does it feel like to think about
actually (FINALLY) doing it?  Does it make you smile?  Do you
get butterflies?  Imagine what it looks like, sounds like and
feels like to accomplish this ONE thing.

Sometimes writing a short fictional story about what could
happen when you step out of your comfort zone can help to break
through some of the negative chatter in your head.  When you
write your story, include as many of your senses as you can to
make it as real as possible.

-- U is for ‘Unleashing your enthusiasm’
What is the best thing that could happen if you go ahead with
your plan to do this?  Will you have fun?  Will you learn
something new?  Will others benefit, too?  Will it be exciting
to do something different?
Think about all of the great
things that will come out of doing this one new thing!

It’s also helpful to create positive responses to the negative
thoughts that have kept you from trying this in the past.  For
example, for a long time, I have wanted to play the flute, but
I’ve always ‘been too busy’ (excuse!), even though I’ve owned a
flute for years.  To address this, I’ve picked up a book on how
to play the flute and I’ve decided that I’ll ‘play with’ playing
the flute once a week for a half hour.  This type of approach
(‘play with’ playing the flute and a short time frame) feels
like fun to me…not work or ‘a should’.  Replacing my negative
thought with this positive response makes it feel light and it’s
exciting for me to think about actually being able to play a
tune on the flute!  So…what positive responses can you create to
your excuses or negative chatter to unleash your enthusiasm?

-- N is for ‘Now go do it!’
What do you have to do to take that first step to move forward?
Maybe, if you’re like me, you’ll need to schedule what you’re
going to do.  Or, maybe you need to do some research, or you
need to talk to a friend who has done something similar.
Whatever that first step is…take it!  And, then take another,
and another…  And, before you know it, you will have done it!

By the way, once you have accomplished what you’ve set out to
do…what will you do to
celebrate?

I hope you have some fun with the
FUN process!

very surprised at how invigorating doing something new can be!
