Hi,

Well, it’s the end of October and you know what that means here in the
US…  No, I’m not talking about the end of daylight savings time!  But I
must say, I am not looking forward to that, which happens Sunday,
November 2nd.  I’m talking about Halloween!  In our neighborhood, I’m
sad to say we don’t get many trick-or-treaters.  I used to love handing out
the candy and seeing all the kids in their adorable costumes.  They have
such a
great time being someone else for the evening, don’t they?

You know, sometimes as adults we end up being someone else
without
realizing its happening
.  Halloween time is the perfect time to take stock
of who you have become vs. who you really want to be.  Check out this
month’s newsletter for more about this!

Happy Halloween!

All my best,
Helen

Feature Article: Who Do You Want To Be?

*************************************************************
Do you ever look in the mirror and think,
‘Who is that person?’  Or maybe
when you’ve been talking to someone, such as your child or a colleague
at work, you think, ‘Wow, who said that?
I sounded just like, <fill in the
blank>!
’  Sometimes we don’t even realize it, but we’ve become someone
else.  And, sometimes this persona doesn’t represent who we feel we are
deep down.
It’s as if this person just kind of ‘showed up’ as we trudged
through our daily life.

I think
this happens to all of us at one time or another.  I vividly recall one
meeting right before I left Corporate America.  We were discussing an
upcoming project and I knew, Bob, one of the people we would be working
with.  I remember saying what a great person Bob was.  After I finished my
comments about Bob, one of my colleagues said, ‘But...’, inviting me to
share my negative experiences and/or any gossip I might have about
Bob.  There honestly wasn’t a ‘but’ with Bob, which is what I told my
colleagues.  They seemed genuinely surprised.  And, I, too, was surprised
because
I hadn’t realized that I had become so jaded about the people I
interfaced with and that my colleagues automatically expected a ‘but…’
when describing what I knew about someone.  I didn’t want to be THAT
person,
that wasn’t WHO I was

As you stop to think about the person you have grown into, do you like
what you see, hear and feel?  Are you representing the
‘best you’?  If not,
you don’t have to blindly accept that person.  This truly is something you
can control in your life.  You have the opportunity to be who you want to be.

So…
who do you want to be?  Do you want to be more patient, more
present, more forgiving?  Maybe you want to be happier or live with more
purpose or live with wild abandon.  When I think about who I want to be, I
think about what I want to be remembered for - I want to be someone who
enables people to feel better about something in their life after
encountering me.  Now, it’s your turn…  Who do you want to be?  It may be
easier if you start with the statement…
‘I want to be someone who…<fill
in who you want to be>!
’  Ideally, write this out for yourself and post it
somewhere you can see it often throughout your day – such as putting it
near your computer screen or on your bathroom mirror.

There are some of you that are already living life as the person you want to
be.  That’s wonderful!  For those of you who fall into this category,
what
would allow you to live your life more fully?

For those of us who want to make some changes to become more of the
person we want to be,
what’s one step you are willing to take this month
to move closer to being who you really want to be?

Taking any steps to become who we really deep down know we are, can
have a
powerful affect on how we show up in the world.  As you start to
make these changes, notice what happens.  Are people responding to
you differently?  Do you feel more authentic?  Are you more excited to get
moving in the morning?

Who you are and who you want to be may be one in the same.  If that’s not
how you would describe yourself today, you, and only you,
have the power
to make the desired changes to become exactly who you want to be!

What's Next for You?

*************************************************************
This month, define who you want to be.  Post your response to this
statement: ‘I am someone who…’ in spots you will see often, such as
your screen saver or by your bedroom clock.  Then, decide at least one
step you are willing to take to bring you more closely aligned with who you
really want to be.  Would you like to share what happened when you made
this change?  Please send an e-mail to:
mailto:
Helen@BetterThanEverCoaching.com with a brief description and I’ll
include it in a future issue of ‘What Could Be Better’.  Please let me know
if you’d like to remain anonymous.
