Hi,

Happy New Year!

It seems like it’s been a very long time since I’ve been in touch with you.
A
lot has happened over these two brief months!
 We made it through the
holidays (I hope it was a very happy and festive holiday for you!), it’s a
brand new year and we, here in the U.S., have a new president!  It’s a very
exciting time!
History is being made!

Hmmm…  I just thought of something.  It doesn’t have to be an exciting
time for history to made, does it?  Can history be made during a boring
time?
Is history being made for you?  Or, is it just ‘other people’ that
make history?  Check out this month’s article to find out more about
making history and it’s lasting impact.

I hope you have a ‘
Better Than Ever’ month!

All my best,
Helen

P.S.  I can really use your help!  Please check out the ‘Will You Share Your
Thoughts On This?’ section for more information how you can help.
Thanks!

Feature Article: Making History

*************************************************************
Wow!  What a week!  Did you see the inauguration?
History sure was
made
when Barack Hussein Obama took the oath of office as America's
first African-American president!

You may believe that history is only made by public personalities such as
politicians and celebrities.  But I don’t feel that’s true.  I think
everyone
makes history every day
.  It’s not unusual to have some days be more
memorable than others.  But the fact remains every day, every hour, every
minute, you’re making history.

I’d like you to take a minute to think about the history you’ve made so far.
How will you be remembered?  Maybe it’s as a hardnosed corporate
executive who put in very long hours at work, but always delivered a project
on time.  Or, perhaps, you’ll be remembered as the calm and funny coach
who taught so many children how to play and love the game of soccer.
Now it’s your turn.  How would you complete this statement – ‘
I will be
remembered as…
’?

As you think about what you’ll be remembered for,
how does it make you
feel?
 Proud? Unhappy? Generous?

Although you can’t change the history you have already made, you can
consciously approach your ‘future history making’ so that it more
accurately reflects who you really want to be.  For example, a number of
years ago, when I was working in Corporate America, I looked at my
history.  Although, I was proud of what I had accomplished, I knew deep in
my heart, it wasn’t how I wanted to be remembered.  I also knew my
current career wasn’t aligned with who I really wanted to be.  By making a
career change into Coaching, I am now able to help people feel better, in
small and large ways, which is how I would like to be remembered!

So,
how would you like to be remembered?  If someone were to write
your history, starting today, what specific characteristics would you want
reflected in your history?  How would you like to be portrayed?  Would your
history going forward look different than your current history?

Each day you make history.  And, you have the opportunity to make your
history reflect who you honestly are.
What are you willing to do to make
sure you are remembered for your truest self?

*************************************************************

What's Next for You?

*************************************************************
During the next couple weeks, what are you willing to do to make sure you
are remembered for your truest self?  You can make a
huge change, such
as a change in careers.  Or, you can make
more subtle changes, such as
volunteering at your favorite charity, listening fully to your children when
they tell you about their day, offering support to an overloaded co-worker,
etc.

You may also want to take some time to
write down the specific
characteristics
you would like reflected in your history.  Then begin
adding activities in your everyday life that allow you to bring these
important characteristics to light.

As you go through this process of defining and implementing how you
want to be remembered, I encourage you to
notice how you feel and how
others respond to you.

Would you like to share what happened as you made history this month?
Please send an e-mail to:
mailto:Helen@BetterThanEverCoaching.com
with a brief description and I’ll include it in a future issue of ‘What Could
Be Better’.  Please let me know if you’d like to remain anonymous.

America?

Please respond via e-mail to

com with any thoughts you have about these two questions.  Your
